Existing notes or symbols - change or delete

Edit Existing Notes and Symbols
To edit symbols like the clef, key signature, text and notes, first, select (highlight) the item, then press Alt+Enter. The dialog box for that item will appear for quick editing.

For notes, right click on the notehead to access Tie, Color, Accidentals, Noteheads. Holding the Ctrl key while right clicking will show crosshairs to get right on the note.

Move an Existing Note
For any selected note(s), Ctrl+Shift+(up/down arrow keys) will move the note(s) up and down on a staff.

Delete One Note in a Chord
Place your insertion point to the right of the chord member and press Ctrl+Backspace to remove the chord member.

Delete Symbols Without Deleting Notes Underneath
If you have not Preserved Width for an inserted item (Text, Tempo, Dynamic, etc), this item does not have a width on the staff. This allows notes to be placed directly under the item. Since the item has no width for you to select, an anchor (or custom pointer) is placed to the left of the item. The anchor (or custom pointer) gives you something to select for editing or deleting.

When you want to delete, copy or edit the items without width, the focus will be the anchor (or custom pointer) - not the item.

If you Preserved Width, the focus will be on the text (or other inserted item).

To delete the item, place the insertion point to the left of the anchor (or custom pointer or text) and press delete. Or, place the insertion point to the right of the anchor (or custom pointer or text) and press back space. Or, select the anchor (or custom pointer or text) and press delete.

To copy the item, select the anchor (or custom pointer or text) and press Ctrl+C.

To edit the item, select the anchor (or custom pointer or text) and press Alt+Enter.

Move Note Horizontally - Move All Notes Closer
If you are using Staff Layering and notes close to the same pitch overlap when layered, you can move one of the notes horizontally. To do this, select the note, press Alt+Enter and under the Notes tab, increase Extra Note Spacing.

The command File: Page Setup, Options tab allows you to toggle the setting "Increase note spacing for longer notes."

Change Direction of Tie or Slur
To change the direction of a tie or slur, select the slurred or tied notes, press Alt+Enter and under the Notes tab, set Slur Direction or Tie Direction to Upward or Downward.
